Measurement
We have begun our newest math unit, we will be exploring all aspects of Measurement up until March Break. We will be learning about temperature, linear measurement, area & perimeter, mass & capacity and telling time.
It is important you ask your child each day what they have learned in math and have them show you their new learning around the house. Also make sure to review the homework each night to make sure they are understanding all the concepts taught.

Prodigy Math Game
To practice Math in a fun way, we started our adventure on the Prodigy Math Game. It is an online game where students level up by answering different math questions.
Please check out the game at: https://www.prodigygame.com/Login/
Each student was given a username and password to login to the game.

Geometry
Our newest Math unit is Geometry. Over the next couple of weeks, we will be learning about figures and ways to describe them, angles and three-dimensional solids.
Practice finding different figures around your home or while you are out with your family. Can you describe each figure you find? Does it have any parallel sides? Is it a rhombus, a parallelogram, or a trapezoid?

Sorting and Graphing
We are beginning our new math unit - Data Management. Focusing on sorting objects, graphing data and interpreting graphs by reading the information a graph presents.
Try sorting objects at home based on different attributes, or while your reading non-fiction texts try looking for graphs.
What do the graphs teach you? What information can you gather from the graph?

Addition and Subtraction
We have been working hard with our Addition and Subtraction Unit.
Using base ten blocks and standard math to add and subtract both 2-digit and 3-digit numbers.
We will have an assessment on Monday December 2nd, 2013.
Duo-tangs will go home on Friday for students to study.

Rounding
Here is our anchor chart showing how we can show our work when rounding.
Using a number lines helps us to clearly see if we are rounding up or down, when rounding to the nearest tens or hundreds.
Practice some rounding fun online at Math Nook (Rounding Games).
Place Value
We have been exploring three-digit numbers and representing them in many different ways.
Here are some of the ways we have represented three-digit numbers.
Standard Form (Number), Base Ten Name, Base Ten Blocks, Words and a Place Value Chart.
