This week we have been learning to read and showing temperature in degree Celsius - using a thermometer. We began by learning why you measure the temperature and how we use it everyday so that we know how to dress for school.
We learned about benchmarks:
Water Freezes at 0 degree Celsius
Water Boils at 100 degree Celsius
Room Temperature is 20 degree Celsius
To learn about our body temperature, we used thermometers. We held them tightly in our hands and blew hot air into our hands. Some of us even put the thermometer under our armpit. Quickly we learned that our body temperature is warmer then room temperature and most of us discovered that it is around 32-37 degree Celsius.
After we took our learning outside and learned about the temperature on a cold day (not freezing cold thankfully!) and the temperature in a big snow bank. We first started by standing outside and holding our thermometers up in the wind - quickly the temperature dropped. Then we went and stuck our thermometers into a snow bank - some of us found that the temperature raised or stayed the same - so we stuck them in deeper.
After our hands-on learning, we went back to class to reflect and write a journal about what we discovered. Taking some time to record what we noticed and learned about measuring temperature.
